1 Genet, Jean THE BALCONY
New York: Grove Press Inc., (1958). First U.S. edition. Translated by Bernard Frechtman. Hardcover. Pale offsetting to the endsheets, a few tiny dots of black stain to the upper edges of the endsheets, else this is a bright, near fine copy in gilt-stamped grey cloth; in a mildly age-toned, very lightly rubbed illustrated dust jacket.
Lovely copy of this avant garde bellwether which had its Obie-winning American premiere at Lucille Lortel's fabled Theatre de Lys in 1960. Genet's work exerted a powerfully influential effect on the off-Broadway movement in Manhattan in the sixties.

2 Hellman, Lillian THE SEARCHING WIND: A Play in Two Acts
New York: The Viking Press, 1944. First edition. Hardcover. A near fine copy, in a lightly age-toned, mildly rubbed dust jacket that exhibits some insignificant edgewear and some tiny nicks at the spine ends. A nice copy.
Anti-fascist drama which criticized America's failure of conscience and thus came under FBI scrutiny. Hellman adapted it for the screen in 1946 with Dudley Digges reprising his stage role, but with Douglas Dick in the part originated by Montgomery Clift.

3 Simon, Neil THE STAR-SPANGLED GIRL
New York: Random House, (1967). First edition. With production photos featuring original stars Anthony Perkins, Connie Stevens and Richard Benjamin. Hardcover. Tiny bump to upper front cover edge, else near fine in cloth-backed boards; in dust jacket that shows mild edgewear and rubbing, a miniscule grease mark, faint age-toning, a few tiny nicks and very short closed edge tears with attendant light creasing.
Simon was just beginning to hit his astonishing pace when this smash hit comedy joined BAREFOOT IN THE PARK, ODD COUPLE, and SWEET CHARITY, all running on Broadway at the same time! Uncommon in the first.
