2 Hazlitt, William LIBER AMORIS: Or The New Pygmalion
London: Printed for John Hunt, 1823. First edition. Re-bound in half green calf over marbled boards; spine hubbed, stamped in gilt, blocked with decorative devices; marbled endpapers. Hardcover. Dots of faint foxing and patches of pale stain to a very few pages, a 3/4'' piece of cellotape applied to an early leaf, else a remarkably clean, near fine copy with light overall wear to the binding extremities. Vignette portrait of Sarah to title-page.
Hazlitt's curious, and some would say, embarrassing, account of his obsessive love for young Sarah Walker, rendered in letters and conversations between the two, and in intimate letters to a pair of friends. De Quincey called it "an explosion of frenzy."
