Abe is the noted author of the novels THE WOMAN IN THE DUNES and The FACE OF ANOTHER. This absurdist play is about an office worker who gets his own apartment, only to have a family he doesn't know move in with him. First performed in Toyko in 1967.

Clavell's influential novel is a saga of Japan in the 1570's featuring the English adventurer John Blackmore, a Japanese warlord, and a woman caught between two cultures. The award-winning miniseries also influenced popular interest in Asian culture.
