1 Hunt, Leigh A JAR OF HONEY FROM MOUNT HYBLA
London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1848. First edition. Re-bound in half-leather over green cloth, spine hubbed, lettered and ruled in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Hardcover. Scattered dots of soil or stain to a few pages, else a remarkably clean, sharp near fine copy, with mild fading, light wear and abrasion to the leather spine and corners. With the gaily elegant frontis, head and tail pieces of Richard Doyle.
Hunt was a Victorian journalist, critic, poet, character in Dickens (Skimpole in BLEAK HOUSE), champion of Keats and Shelley, and as amply demonstrated here, master of the light essay--this volume dominated by glimpses of Sicilian history and culture.
