"Can a woman be married to a man for seven years, divorce him, marry again and have a son who possesses all the mental characteristics of his mother's first husband?" Scarce novel from the author best known for THE GARDEN OF ALLAH and THE PARADINE CASE.

Reissue of the novel to coordinate with the 1927 film release. Hardcover. A very good copy, in lime green cloth with black silhouettes and lettering; lacking dust jacket. Illustrated with stills from the film, including frontispiece: '''On the night of his wedding with Domini, Androvsky hesitates, thinking of his past.'' 
"The star-crossed desert romance of a cloistered woman and a renegade monk" had been filmed first in 1916, then, as recorded here, in 1927 by Rex Ingram with stars Alice Terry and Ivan Petrovich, and again in 1936 with Marlene Dietrich and Charles Boyer.
