From the distinguished detective collection of Adrian Homer Goldstone, with his attractive bookplate to the front pastedown. Hardcover. Mild offsetting to the endsheets, else a near fine, fresh copy in later state (Cooper & Pike) red cloth with black spine lettering and rules, decorated with black vertical lines to the front cover; in a fine high quality FACSIMILE dust jacket. 
A golden age British detective novel by a pioneer in the police procedural technique. An "outsider" is found dead on the shore when the tide goes out, and the police must overcome the locals' reticence to solve the case. A nice copy of an elusive book!

From the distinguished detective library of Adrian Homer Goldstone, with his attractive bookplate to the front pastedown endpaper. Hardcover. Tanned offsetting to the half-title and last leaf, small chip to the corner of page 17, small spot of stain to the title-page; the spine has faded, mild soiling and edge fading to the covers, else very good in blue cloth with red titles; no dust jacket.

Faun cloth with titles, rules, and publisher's device in orange. Hardcover. Remains of a large bookplate to the front endpaper, rear endpaper has paper residue, offsetting to the endsheets; covers are shelfworn, frayed, faded, soiled, and display two tiny spots of stain to the spine, else good; lacking the rare dust jacket. 
Map of Liverpool and Southport as a frontispiece. Henry Wade, a staunch advocate of the classical detective novel in its purest form, was a practioner of the modern British realistic school and a master of the police novel. A rare early title.
