Biography of the author of the pioneering THE WELL OF LONELINESS, a novel denounced by the Home Secretary when it was released in 1928 because of its lesbian theme.

Black cloth with spine titles gilt; deckle-edge paper. Hardcover. Good only: with age-toning to the text, as expected, occasional staining or foxing also to the text and endpapers, tears to the margins of several leaves, inner hinges repaired, a red ink gift inscription to the title-page; spine titles worn. 
Professionally restored copy with restoration to the spine and shelf edges. This copy, printed in Paris, has been inscribed and SIGNED by the author to the title-page. Classic Lesbian novel rarely encountered inscribed or signed.
