Ashcroft, British Columbia: Ash-Tree Press, 1997. First edition thus. Limited to five hundred copies. Hardcover. Very fine in dust jacket decorated by Paul Lowe; with interior reproduction of the original 1931 jacket illustration, a bizarre art deco depiction of a man in a coffin-like box suspended, Houdini-style, high from a crane amidst looming skyscrapers. 
The third in Ash-Tree's series of Wakefield's weird fiction, with introduction by Barbara Roden, frontispiece photo of the author, and bibliographical afterword by Jack Adrian.

One of 4040 copies printed. Hardcover. Ownership name to the front endpaper, minor wear to the heel of the spine, else very good; in a worn, illustrated dust jacket missing nearly one-half of the lower spine, with chips and tears to the shelf edges and corner tips. Jacket art by Ronald Clyne. 
Collection of 14 macabre yarns originally published in 1940, then reprinted here by Arkham House in 1946 with 4 additional tales and an introduction by the author on "Why I Write Ghost Stories."
