1 Goyen, William THE HOUSE OF BREATH
New York: Random House, (1950). First edition, first printing. Hardcover. About near fine, with a number of minor flaws: light wear, soiling, pencilled notations and underscoring scattered throughout, faint age-toning to textblock; lacking the dust jacket.
Goyen's first novel, an autobiographical family chronicle, contains "long passages of the best writing, the fullest and richest and most expressive, that I have read in a very long time."--Katherine Anne Porter. SIGNED by the author.

2 Goyen, William THE HOUSE OF BREATH
New York: Random House, (1950). First edition, first printing. Young, 1547. Hardcover. Near fine, in tan boards with titling in grey and white; in a very good only dust jacket that shows considerable wear, some nicking and a few short closed edge tears, a few areas of pale dampstain, diagonal crease to front panel.
"Much more than a first novel of astonishing achievement....a profound sympathy with the humblest and poorest men and women combined with a great poetic insight constitute Mr. Goyen's wonderful and rare gift."--Stephen Spender. SIGNED by the author.
