Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1927. First U.S. edition. Hardcover. A clean, near fine copy with faint suggestion of a crease to shelfback, corner tips mildly bumped, hint of wear at the spine ends, gilt spine lettering somewhat tarnished, traces left from erasure of previous owner's name to pastedown; no dust jacket. 
Posthumous collection of stories from the author Orwell called the "chronicler of vulgarity, squalor and failure." Preface by Alfred C. Gissing. Included: the title tale, "The Fate of Humphrey Snell," "Lou and Liz," "The Foolish Virgin," eleven more.

New York: Columbia University Press, 1931. B00086M72U First edition, limited issue: #383 of 500 numbered copies produced. Hardcover. Very close to fine, in gilt-stamped brown cloth shelfback over gold-flecked decorative boards; dark brown top-edge tint; many pages still uncut; in a fair dust jacket which is separated at the rear spine fold and missing almost the entire spine panel. 
"Now first reprinted from the Chicago Tribune together with six other stories attributed to him." With introductions by George Everett Hastings, Vincent Starrett, Thomas Olive Mabbott. Nifty fine press Gissing item. Tall octavo.
