The noted ichthyologist, evolution expert, educator, scientist and peace activist holds forth on sciosophy (a word coined by Jordan to mean The Spontaneous Activity of Shadows). Based upon articles first published in Popular Science Monthly.

Bound in laid Japanese paper over boards, with white parchment back, gilt top edge, with cover stamping in gold. Hardcover. Faint offsetting to the endpapers (from dust jacket flaps), else a fine, fresh copy; in a near fine, mildly age-toned original dust jacket with a tiny chip missing from the crown of the spine, and several small closed edge tears. Slim octavo. 84 pages. 
The practical, working religion of David Starr Jordan, the President of Stanford University who was a eugenicist, ichthyologist, educator and probably best known for being a peace activist. Scarce thus!
