A handsome limited edition of Edwin Corle's first novel, enchanced by illustrations by Don Perceval and a foreword by Lawrence Clark Powell. A fresh copy--virtually as new!

New York: E.P. Dutton and Co., Inc., 1940. First edition. Hardcover. Hint of wear at spine crown, else a fine, bright copy in russet cloth decorated and lettered in black; in an age-toned, illustrated dust jacket with a faint crease to the spine, mild rubbing and edgewear, and few tiny nicks at spine ends. A nice copy! 
A ten-year-old child of well-to-do parents befriends a hobo and his pet rat who live deep in a gully near the girl's home. The jacket blurb calls it a blend of Steinbeck and Robert Nathan. Set in Pasadena. Dramatized by John Van Druten in 1942.
