With ''First published in 1914'' on tipped-in title-page. Hardcover. Spine ends worn, covers rubbed and showing some tiny areas of pale stain, else very good in sage green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt to the spine; no dust jacket. 
Conrad was born Teodor Jozef Konrad Korzeniowski in Poland, and as a young man worked on French and English ships, before joining the British Merchant Service. CHANCE tells the story of Flora de Barral, a young girl struggling to achieve some dignity.
