1 Chambers, Peter A LONG TIME DEAD
London: Robert Hale, (1981). First edition. Hardcover. Very good: retired from the Manchester Public Libraries, bearing that institution's stamps to endsheets, page edges; tape scars, stains to endsheets, covers; pages soiled, rumpled; inked price to title-page; near fine color photo-pictorial dust jacket.
The murder of Napoleon Scotsman the 4th brings California PI Mark Preston (created by London-born Chambers) to Isobel's Towers, a dilapidated mansion built by a silent movie queen. Napoleon turns out to be a dog! Scarce Chambers title, no U.S. edition.

2 Chambers, Peter LADY, YOU'RE KILLING ME
London: Robert Hale, (1979). 0709171706 / 9780709171706 First edition. Color photo-pictorial jacket art by Lawrence Cutting. Hardcover. Retired from the Winnipeg Public Library, with stamp and pocket to front free endsheet, stamps to page edges, mild spine slant, hint of tape residue to boards; in a dust jacket that shows a sticker removal shadow to lower spine, mild wear to spine ends.
Scarce Mark Preston title. Chambers was British, but his California-set P.I series derives from the "Chandler school of thriller writing; dry and witty in tone, racy in style...the plots are fast-moving, the dialogue crisp and sharp."--June Thomson.
