(Wyeth, N.C.) Johnston, Mary THE WITCH
Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1914. First edition. Tissue-guarded color frontispiece and jacket art by N.C. Wyeth. Brown cloth with cover and spine titles and rules gilt. Hardcover. Spotting to the margins of the first few pages of text, page edges display some soiling and light foxing, bumped crease to the lower rear cover, spine gilt tarnished, else very good plus; in a worn dust jacket that is soiled, stained, chipped, and torn.
Mary Johnston was an American writer best known for her historical fiction but many of her works are of supernatural interest. THE WITCH, set in 17th-century England, deals with witchcraft, and represents her earliest foray into the genre.
