Cleveland and New York: The World Publishing Company, (1947). Seventh edition. So stated on copyright page. A Forum Motion Picture Edition. Hardcover. Light wear to extremities, owner's name to pastedown, thus near fine, in brown composition binding with yellow lettering, rules and imprint emblem; in an about near fine photo-pictorial dust jacket, showing light wear and rubbing, nicking at spine ends. 
Photoplay edition of the screenwriter/novelist's "psycho-erotic Western" (Hal Erickson), which was filmed by Selznick with Gregory Peck and Jennifer Jones in the leads. Photo-pictorial endsheets in this edition, but no other interior illustrations.

Appleton-Century Company, Incorporated, (1944). First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Very mild crimp to spine crown, else fine, in tan cloth with black spine lettering; in an age-darkened very good plus illustrated dust jacket, with a scratch to front panel, edge tear to upper front panel, mild edgewear. Jacket art by George Salter. 
The story of five ex-marines faced with the problems of life and love in a civilian world, from the author of DUEL IN THE SUN. Filmed in 1946 by Edward Dmytryk with Robert Mitchum, Guy Madison, Bill Williams, and Dorothy McGuire.
