1 Tarkington, Booth PENROD
Garden City, New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1914. First edition, mixed state: ''sence'' for ''sense'' page 19, page ''viii'' unnumbered. Illustrated by Gordon Grant. Hardcover. Owner's name and address to front free endsheet, else a very good plus copy with mild soiling, very light wear; in blue textured cloth with debossed cream lettering and circular inset paste-on illustration (in superb condition); no dust jacket.
Tarkington's brilliantly witty and enduringly popular comic portrait of boyhood in a small Midwestern city, immeasurably enhanced by Grant's pitch-perfect line drawings; in the front cover inset, Duke the dog's tail wags over the edge of the circle.

2 Tarkington, Booth THE TWO VANREVELS
New York: McClure, Phillips & Co., 1902. B000BUXT0C First edition, first printing. Illustrations, including tissue-guarded frontispiece, by Henry Hutt. Hardcover. Scattered foxing to page edges and preliminaries, overall light wear and mild soiling, slight spine roll, spot of stain to spine; thus very good only; in green decorative cloth with gilt lettering and cream devices, top edge gilt; no dust jacket.
Early novel from the Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist of Midwestern life, author of THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS and PENROD--who was one of the most popular writers of his time. This is the true first issue: the last line on page 127 reads "the" for "she."
