London: Thomas Nelson and Sons, [1913]. First edition. In indigo cloth with elaborate blind embossed cover device; complementary device and gilt-stamped titles to spine. Color frontispiece. Hardcover. Bookplate to the front pastedown, pages display some spots of staining, mild lean to the spine, edgewear to the spine ends and corner tips, spine also shows darkening, and there are scattered marks to the covers, else an about very good copy. 
The ground-breaking tongue-in-cheek golden age classic in its first appearance. Front cover device features the publisher's initial, as do the decorated endpapers. Haycraft-Queen Cornerstone first published in the U.S. as THE WOMAN IN BLACK.

Snappy issue of Bentley's milestone, with doublespread frontispiece and cover art by Quentin Fiore specially commissioned for this edition. The artwork integrates clues to the mystery's solution in its array of symbols and vignettes.
