1 Clark, Arthur H. THE CLIPPER SHIP ERA: An Epitome of Famous American and British Clipper Ships, Their Owners, Builders, Commanders, and Crews 1843-1869
New York and London: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1910. First edition: Superb association copy: the front endpaper has been SIGNED, dated (1910) and inscribed by the author to Admiral Samuel W. Very. Hardcover. Front and rear hinges cracked, nicks and tears to a few leaves, mild foxing to the endsheets, gilt spine titles worn, and covers show some rubbing and wear, else an about very good copy; no dust jacket. 404 pages; appendices, index. 32 illustrations.
"Far and away the best account of the clipper, by a man who was an officer of one in his youth."--Ralph Paine. Very (inventor of Very's night signal system) has annotated and corrected the passages which pertain to him. Unique copy of a key work.
